Server / Network Changes
We have made some changes to the server network, and are planning some other changes which affect the L2 servers. More information is below.
Network Changes
We have changed the IP addresses used by all L2 servers, as well as the login server, to better the game experience. Our old IP addresses were from RIPE, the Romanian IP authority. We have now changed to US IPs provided by our datacenter.
What are the benefits?
All US IPs have better routing to/from the datacenter. The Romanian IPs, while working, do not get all the benefits of the datacenter-provided IP range. It's also possible the IPs were confusing some routers/ISPs about our server location. In the end, we hope the IP change has positive effects for anyone experiencing lag/delay on our servers.
What are the old and new IPs?
Please don't use the actual IP addresses. Use the DNS hostnames auth.azurel2.com, aerith.azurel2.com, and nanaki.azurel2.com. However, I have listed the IPs below.
Old Romanian IPs:
- Auth - 89.46.34.190
- Aerith - 89.46.34.191
- Nanaki - 89.46.34.192
New US IPs:
- Auth - 67.202.101.2
- Aerith - 67.202.101.3
- Nanaki - 67.202.101.4
I can't connect anymore! What can I do?
If you have connection problems after this change, try the following things:
- Try pinging the servers using the server hostnames above. If you can't ping them, or the IP is one of the old IPs, please try the next steps.
- Open up a MS-DOS command prompt as an administrator, and type "ipconfig /flushdns" to reset your DNS cache.
- Make sure that you do not have any Azure L2 IPs defined in your hosts file. If you do, please delete the entries. On Windows, the hosts file is located at %WINDOWS%\system32\etc\hosts and can be opened with Notepad or other text editors.
- Try resetting your modem/router to update your IP and resync with your ISP. It may fix the issue. If you still have problems, try calling your ISP.
Server Changes
We will be making a server move for both Aerith and Nanaki hardware later this week. The exact date will be updated in this post later. However, we expect to do the change either Tuesday or Wednesday evening, US Central Time. We will post the exact date and time once we know for sure.
Why are you moving the servers?
We are moving our game servers from the combined "Nanaki" server, which currently hosts both Aerith and Nanaki, onto their own hardware. This will allow us to use the same port on both Aerith and Nanaki, allow us to update each server seperately more easily than now, and allow us to reinstall the current "Nanaki" server as a VPS node to use for other things.
When is the server move/maintenance?
Date and Time: To be determined.
Estimated Downtime: 1-2 hours.
We will do testing beforehand to make a smooth transition between servers.
Will there be any rollback or other issues?
No, there will not be any rollback or other issues. All character data is safely stored on our dedicated SQL server, and backed up nightly. Don't worry!
If you have some feedback about these changes, please post a reply in this thread. Thanks.
Maintenance Now Scheduled
The server move is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Jan. 8 between 7 PM and 10 PM (US Central Time). US Central Time is GMT -6. Unless we run into problems during testing, we will not be changing the time.
Estimated downtime is still 1-2 hours. We will be performing testing early on Wednesday, and make sure everything is working properly before we move the servers over.
Other than the downtime, players shouldn't notice any differences. The servers will remain 'lagless' as they always have been. The only change will be on Aerith, where the game port will change from 2206 back to 2106. This way, both Aerith and Nanaki will use the same port again.
